Folkworks: Blazin' Fiddles

Blazin’ Fiddles are one of the world’s most prolific fiddle groups. Celebrating their 21st year in 2019, they have nine albums and many thousands of miles and behind them, yet a passion that burns brighter than ever. No other band has quite managed to capture the excitement, sensitivity and raw fire of Scottish music all at once.
With a ‘Blazers’ performance comes the unique opportunity to hear the regional expressions and diverse fiddle dialects from Scotland’s Highlands and islands, and the individual style from each music. The four fiddle frontline of Inverness’ Bruce MacGregor, Shetlander Jenna Reid, Nairn’s Rua Macmillan, and Orcadian Kristan Harvey are joined by guitar and piano from Anna Massie and Angus Lyon, where fiddles and bows ignite in a blend of ensemble and solo sets.
Whether the hall is in a remote Highland village or London’s Royal Albert, this legendary, multi award-winning act never fails to set the hearts of their audiences alight.
“The band’s passion is gloriously infectious… a much loved staple on the Scots traditional scene for the past 20 years” Songlines

In their five years together, Scottish firebrands Talisk have stacked up several major awards for their explosively energetic yet artfully woven sound, including 2017’s Folk Band of the Year at the BBC Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award.
Mohsen Amini, the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Musician of the Year 2018, Hayley Keenan and Graeme Armstrong seamlessly meld concertina, fiddle and guitar to produce a multi-layered, enthralling signature that has effortlessly captivated audiences from the USA to Australia, and throughout the UK.
They have appeared at world-leading festivals, including the Cambridge Folk Festival, WOMAD UK, Celtic Colours, and five successive outings at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections, and have amassed a die-hard following, whilst the world’s folk and music media have also lauded high credits on the trio.
The release of their hotly anticipated second album, Beyond, in October 2018, was met with a five-star Top of the World review in Songlines, praising the band as ‘incredibly infectious and endearing… fresh, invigorating, accomplished and playfully frisky’.

Yes - Relayer - The Album Series Tour 2020
Saturday 30 May, 8pm
Prog rock favourites Yes present their 1974 Relayer album in its entirety together with a selection of other classic tracks.
This tour follows their 2018 highly successful anniversary tour and again features the line-up of Steve Howe (guitars), Alan White (drums), Geoff Downes (keyboards), Billy Sherwood (bass guitar and backing vocals), Jon Davison (vocals) and Jay Schellen (additional drums and percussion).
The show will comprise two sets by the band with full production and a high definition video wall. The first will feature favourite classic tracks from Yes’ extensive catalogue. The second will feature Relayer, the seventh studio album by Yes, and one of the band’s most distinctive. Relayer marked a slight change in direction as Patrick Moraz replaced Rick Wakeman on keyboards bringing an edgier, avant-garde feel to the album.
This was perfect for the opening track Gates Of Delirium, almost 22 minutes in length, with its battle scene featuring the keyboard of Moraz and Steve Howe’s guitar. The battle gives way to the beautiful closing ballad Soon, a prayer for peace and hope.
Formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late, and much-missed, Chris Squire, Yes have been one of the most innovative, influential and best-loved bands in rock music history.
